Shapiro Cardiovascular Center
Brigham and Women's Hospital

Boston, Massachusetts

This new 420,000 square foot building for BWH was completed in the summer of 2008. The building is a one-stop location for the needs of a cardiac patient including 136 in-patient bed rooms, 16 operating rooms, laboratory spaces, imaging suites, and out-patient exam suites.

Part of the project team from Schematic Design through Construction Administration, I served as a job captain for the Envelope and Systems portion of the project; led the LEED documentation effort for points assigned to the architecture team; and assisted in the field during construction by answering RFIs, issuing change directives, and providing construction observation for the Envelope and Systems and the Interior Fit Out.

Suffolk University

Boston, Massachusetts

The New England School or Art and Design at Suffolk University will be housed in this new $68M building, which includes 7 stories above grade and 3 stories below grade. Built on the site of the old Metropolitan District Commission on Beacon Hill, the building will contain studios, classrooms, faculty office space, and two galleries for student and professional artwork. The façade is a mix of stone, masonry, and curtain wall. The project scope includes renovations to the adjacent Roemer Plaza.

I worked as a member of the Design Development team and focused on the coordination of structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. The project is moving into Construction Documentation and will be completed in late 2010.

Massachusetts General Hospital

Boston, Massachusetts

The new 10,000 square foot Post Anasthesia Care Unit at Massachusetts General Hospital contains 21 single occupant recovery bays with an additional 10 bays planned for Phase II in 2011. The project is an enabling project for MGH's new Building for the Third Century and was originally designed by NBBJ's New York office. The new unit is a complete gut renovation of a former NICU/PICU.

Once Chan Krieger Sieniewicz became involved early in Design Development, I served as the Project Manager and main client contact until project completion in June of 2009. The project successfully integrates the demands of the PACU staff with the design intent of the new Building for the Third Century, while working within the constraints of a building with a low floor-to-floor height.

Dolan Field House
Clark University

Worcester, Massachusetts

The Dolan Field House at Clark University serves as the main training facility for the soccer, lacrosse, and baseball teams. A series of sod and artificial fields was also part of the project scope. The building includes a large gymnasium and associated locker rooms. The exterior plaza and balcony provide an area to view the adjacent outdoor fields. The exterior façade is composed of concrete masonry units, glazed brick, and zinc panels.

As a co-op student with Chan Krieger, I worked on the team that produced the construction documents and also assisted in the design by building models.

South Capitol Street
Masterplan

Washington, DC

Congress directed this streetscape study of South Capitol Street from the Capitol Building south to the bridge across the Anacostia River. The intent of the study was to improve vehicular and pedestrian access along the corridor as well as creating an environment that represents a street of national significance. In addition, different schemes were proposed for improving traffic flow by adjusting the location of the bridge at the south end of the corridor.

As a co-op student, my role was to assist in processing data, generating design alternatives, and producing graphics for the final presentation and document.

DAAPWorks Display System

Cincinnati, Ohio

The annual DAAP senior thesis show was moving from the Cincinnati Convention Center to campus and the DAAP building. The problem was that there was not a display system available. An architecture studio was held to resolve this problem. This scheme uses existing steel hangers, which had become abandoned, to hang a tackable panel and model ledge.

A teammate and I designed and constructed a prototype that was then mass produced. Along with other systems created in the studio, this project served to display the work of students at the spring 2002 show.

The studio earned a Best of Show Award at DAAPWorks 2002.
